The World Green Infrastructure Congress (WGIC), organised annually by the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN), will hold its twelfth edition in Barcelona and Lleida from 27 to 30 October 2026. The event, co‑organised with the University of Lleida, will bring together international experts in urban green infrastructure and nature‑based solutions.
Under the motto “Green infrastructure for a healthier and safer urban future”, WGIC26 aims to highlight the role of green infrastructure in improving urban health, well‑being and climate resilience. The congress will explore how these solutions help mitigate the effects of climate change and how they must adapt to an increasingly demanding environmental context. The Mediterranean region, characterised by high temperatures and low rainfall, offers a privileged setting for exploring innovative urban renaturalisation strategies.
The programme includes two days of conferences in Barcelona, featuring five parallel sessions and more than ten international keynote speakers, two specialised workshops, a day of technical visits to real projects in the city, and an optional day in Lleida dedicated to research and innovation in green infrastructure.
Since its first edition in 2009 in Toronto, the congress has become a global meeting point for researchers, professionals, public administrations and companies. Recent editions, held in Berlin (2023), Auckland (2024) and Basel (2025), have stood out for their high level of participation and for driving innovation in green roofs, green façades, ecological corridors and sustainable urban drainage systems.
WGIC26 represents a unique opportunity to strengthen international collaboration and promote greener, healthier and more sustainable cities.
